Looking for something different to do around town? Girls day out, date night, or maybe it's just time to start a new hobby! If any of these sound like you, you may want to look into Modern Calligraphy Classes with Molly Margaret and Esque Script. Molly Margaret offers one weekend class per month in which she teaches the strokes of modern calligraphy or modern lettering.
Her classes were recommended to me by a friend who understood my 13 year-old daughter's interest in lettering. We signed up, bought the supplies and found the class very appropriate for the both of us!
Here's what you can expect:
1. Register online for the class.
2. Upon registering, you'll be given a supply list with items to purchase for the class. There are several options for the purchase of supplies: order online and have delivered to your house or order through the store and pick up at your convenience or when you arrive at the class.
3. Show up and have fun!
My daughter and I made a Saturday mother daughter date out of this class. We ventured from Franklin to Nashville, 113 Graylynn Drive, to be exact. This is no short trip if you are trekking from Franklin, so plan accordingly. The Nashville class takes place in a paper and art supply store known as, Paper & Ink Arts.
The class took place tucked away in a room off the paper supply store. Our Saturday class started at 9am and went through the lunch hour, until 1pm. I suggest packing a snack, because the both of us got the munchies.
The class started with an introduction to our tools, which was helpful because we honestly had no clue what was in front of us.
Molly Margaret was laid back, informative, knowledgeable and frequently walked around to give individualized feedback. The class mostly consisted with overhead instruction and demonstration, followed by a lot of practice.
Did I mention that we had a lot of practice? Our hands, necks and backs were actually tired after this 4 hour class!
Over the three plus hour class, we learned how to create every upper and lower case letter and discussed some additional modern fonts. My daughter and I highly recommend taking this class or any other lettering class that Molly Margaret offers!
